With a new season in the air, our chefs and gardeners at THE PIG-on the beach are busy creating fresh, autumnal dishes for our 25 mile menu, brimming with heaps of hearty homegrown produce and fresh coastal pickings from the Dorset shoreline.

We can’t think of a better, more delicious (or more PIG!) way to celebrate the best of the new season than by inviting you round to ours for a hands-on, half-day foraging adventure to discover the delicious, autumnal gems on the Swanage coast – it really is as fresh as it gets!

Join us for a shoreline walk and talk with our friend and wild food forager, Tom Radford, followed by a two-course lunch (inspired by your foraged finds) at THE PIG-on the beach.

You’ll head to our house in the morning, where we’ll warmly welcome you in with a hot drink, a fresh pastry and a friendly introduction to Tom – and you’ll be able to get to know your fellow foragers. Together, you’ll then head to a secret spot* around 15-minutes away from THE PIG-on the beach to begin the foraging walk close to the Swanage shoreline.

*You will need to be able to make your own way to meet us at the secret foraging spot in Swanage, which will be confirmed on the day.

As you explore, Tom will help you identify what’s edible (and what’s not!) on the coast, what’s medicinal and what can even be used as ingredients in soaps and cosmetics. You will you get a fascinating insight into your foraged pickings as you walk, while Tom will share the folklore surrounding the landscape, the wild plants and the sea life – and there will be plenty of chances to ask questions as you go.

After working up a well-earned appetite, you’ll head back to THE PIG-on the beach to tuck into a warming, coastal-inspired two-course lunch and a glass of our very own PIG Cut wine or a non-alcoholic tipple.

What to bring with you

Comfortable shoes are a must and, while we hope the British weather will be on our side, we suggest wearing something suitable for all eventualities… just in case! We also recommend bringing a water bottle with you for the foraging walk.

We love your furry friends, but please leave them at home for this experience.
